Gate Motor Repairs Sandton FULL SERVICE LIST

Gate Motor Repairs Sandton Services We Offer

We provide professional Gate Motor Repairs Sandton services for residential homes, luxury estates, apartment complexes, office parks and commercial properties across Sandton and surrounding suburbs. Our technicians repair Centurion, ET, Gemini, DTS and Nice gate motors affected by load shedding, battery failure, PCB board damage, remote faults and mechanical wear.

Sandton has some of the highest gate motor usage in Johannesburg due to the concentration of secure estates, office parks, business premises and high-end residential properties. Frequent load shedding and power restoration surges continue to increase gate motor failures across Sandton every week.

Whether your gate motor is completely dead, opening slowly, beeping continuously or stuck after a power outage, we provide fast same-day gate motor repairs throughout Sandton.

Centurion D5 & D5-Evo Repairs

The most common gate motor repair in Sandton. Load shedding and power surges frequently damage D5 and D5-Evo control boards, batteries and receivers. We repair gates that are stuck closed, beeping, reversing unexpectedly or completely dead after power outages.

We carry Centurion boards, batteries and spare parts in our vehicles for same-day repairs across Sandton. Most D5 faults are repaired on-site without needing a full motor replacement.

Gate Motor Repairs & Installations

We repair and install all major gate motor brands including Centurion, Nice ROBUS, Gemini, ET Drive and DTS systems. Common faults include motor burnouts, gearbox wear, damaged racks, remote receiver faults and limit setting issues.

Our technicians can repair existing systems or install complete new gate motor automation systems for residential and estate properties across Sandton.

Load Shedding & Surge Repairs

The #1 call-out in Sandton. Load shedding drains gate motor batteries and Eskom power restoration spikes damage circuit boards and chargers. Most gate motors fail immediately after power returns.

We replace damaged batteries, control boards, chargers and fit surge protection systems to prevent future failures. Same-day repair available for most brands.

Sliding Gate Motor Repairs

We repair sliding gate motors that are noisy, slow, stuck, derailing or not closing properly. Faults often include damaged wheels, bent tracks, worn gear racks and motor alignment problems.

We work on residential sliding gates, estate entrances and commercial access systems across Sandton and surrounding areas.

Gate Motor Battery Replacement

If your gate opens slowly, stops during load shedding or gives battery warning beeps, the battery likely needs replacement. We supply and install long-life gate motor batteries for Centurion, Gemini, ET and Nice systems.

We also test charging systems to ensure the new battery lasts longer and charges correctly during outages.

Remote Programming & Receiver Repairs

We repair gate remotes, reprogram receivers and install new remote systems for homes, offices and estates. If your remotes suddenly stopped working after load shedding, the receiver board may be damaged.

We stock remotes and receivers for all major gate motor brands.

Gate Motor Repairs Sandton — Local Context

Sandton's Unique Gate Motor Challenges

Sandton is unlike any other area in Johannesburg. Understanding what makes Sandton different is what makes us better at repairing gate motors here.

Sandton has a higher concentration of automatic gates per square kilometers than almost any other area in Gauteng. The combination of freestanding homes in suburbs like Bryanston, Hyde Park, Morningside and Inanda, large security estate complexes throughout Sunninghill, Paulshof and Gallo Manor, and cluster home developments across Atholl, Parkmore and Benmore, means automatic gate motors are security-critical infrastructure — not a convenience.

Load shedding has made the situation more acute. The voltage restoration spike when Eskom power returns after an outage is the single most common cause of gate motor failure across Sandton — destroying the PCB control board while leaving the motor mechanism intact. We have stocked replacement boards for all major brands in our service vehicles specifically because of the frequency and predictability of this fault in Sandton.

We understand Sandton's estate security protocols: we carry company identification at all times, give advance notice to security, follow complex-specific access procedures, and communicate directly with estate managers. When you call 061 402 6299, you speak directly to our dispatch team — no call centres, no automated systems.

Gate Stopped After Load Shedding in Sandton? Read This First?

The power restoration spike destroys your gate motor's control board. Your motor mechanism is almost certainly fine. We carry Centurion D5, D5-Evo, D10 Smart, Nice ROBUS 600 and 1000, ET Drive, Gemini and DTS boards in stock for same-day installation. In the majority of Sandton callouts, we diagnose, supply and fit the replacement board in a single visit — no waiting for parts, no second appointment. We also install a surge protector on the same visit (R450–R900) to prevent it happening again. Call 061 402 6299 now

Gate Motor Brands We Repair in Sandton

Every Brand — Parts in Stock

The brands installed across Sandton, what specifically goes wrong with each model in this area, and what it typically costs to fix.

Centurion D5 / D5-Evo Gate Motor

The dominant brand across Sandton freestanding and cluster homes. PCB control board failure after load-shedding voltage surges is the #1 repair we carry out in Sandton. The original D5 is most vulnerable — its board lacks built-in surge protection. We recommend upgrading to D5-Evo spec board on the same callout for better protection going forward. Parts in stock permanently.

Residential sliding gates

Most Common Fault

Surge-damaged control board

Repair Cost Range

R1,800 – R6,500

Centurion D10 Smart Gate Motor

Found on heavy estate entrance gates, large freestanding properties and high-cycle commercial applications across Hyde Park, Bryanston, Inanda and Woodmead. The D10 Smart handles gates up to 1,000kg with unlimited daily cycles. Motor winding failure is more common on the D10 than lighter models due to heavy gate weight and high cycle counts. We stock D10 Smart control boards, battery pairs and motor components.

Best For

Heavy-duty / large gates

Most Common Fault

Motor winding failure

Repair Cost Range

R3,200 – R9,000

Centurion R5 / Vantage Gate Motor

The Centurion R5 and Centurion Vantage are both swing gate motors, but they are designed for different applications, performance levels, and gate types.

The Centurion R5 gate motor is a rotary arm swing gate motor ideal for domestic and light-industrial use, such as homes, complexes, and small business entrances. It is designed for gates up to 3.5m per leaf and ±250kg, offering smooth, quiet operation, battery backup, and easy installation.

Best For

Swing gates

Most Common Fault

Limit switch / ram seal

Repair Cost Range

R1,200 – R5,500

Nice ET Drive 500 / 1000 Gate Motor

Common across Sandton residential properties. The ET Drive PCB is more fragile than Centurion under load shedding surge conditions — receiver failure and full board failure are frequent after power restoration events. We carry ET boards and receivers in stock for same-day repair. Older ET installations in Gallo Manor, Rivonia and Woodmead often warrant full motor replacement over repeated board repairs.

Best For

Budget sliding gates

Most Common Fault

PCB board failure

Repair Cost Range

R1,400 – R5,000

Gemini Slider 12AH Gate Motor

Very common in Sandton cluster home complexes and townhouse estates — particularly Sunninghill, Paulshof, Benmore and Gallo Manor. The Gemini's 12Ah battery gives it better load shedding resilience than most competitors, but capacitor failure remains its most frequent fault. If your Gemini hums but doesn't move, it is almost certainly the capacitor — an affordable repair typically completed in under 45 minutes.

Best For

Residential / light commercial

Most Common Fault

Motor capacitor failure

Repair Cost Range

R1,200 – R4,500

DTS Elite 600 & Arrow Gate Motor

Found in Sandton residential and light commercial properties. DTS PCB failures are common following load shedding, and the boards are typically more expensive to replace than Centurion equivalents. We carry DTS Elite and Arrow boards in stock. Older DTS models from pre-2015 installations are often better replaced than repaired — we quote honestly on both options.

Best For

Residential

Most Common Fault

Remote receiver fault

Repair Cost Range

R1,000 – R4,000

Nice ROBUS 600 & 1000 Gate Motor

Common in Sandton's premium estates and large freestanding properties — particularly Hyde Park, Bryanston, Illovo and Sandhurst. The ROBUS 1000 handles heavy estate gates quietly and smoothly. Logic board failure after severe load shedding surges is the primary fault. The 24V dual-battery system means both batteries must be replaced simultaneously. We carry ROBUS boards and battery pairs in stock for same-day repair.

 Sandton Gate Motor Question

Centurion D5 vs D5-Evo vs D5 Smart — What's the Difference?

The most common gate motor question we receive from Sandton homeowners. These three models look nearly identical from the outside but differ significantly in board quality, surge protection and features. If you don't know which model you have, check the label inside the motor housing lid.

Centurion D5 (Original) Gate Motor

  • Gates up to 500kg
  • Gen 1 - Board generation
  • No Surge protection
  • No LCD display / error codes
  • Not DOSS (Digital Origin Seeking)
  • No Bluetooth / App control
  • No Remote diagnostic via app

Centurion D5-Evo Gate Motor

  • Gates up to 500kg
  • Gen 2 -Board generation
  • Basic onboard Surge protection
  • LCD with codes
  • Full DOSS
  • No Bluetooth / App control
  • No Remote diagnostic via app

Centurion D5 Smart Gate Motor

  • Gates up to 500kg
  • Gen 3 -Board generation
  • Enhanced + TVS diodes Surge protection
  • LCD + app alerts
  • Full DOSS
  • Centurion Connect app
  • Full app diagnostics

Paskwa Tip for Sandton D5 Owners

If you have the original Centurion D5 (no LCD screen, no DOSS), we strongly recommend upgrading to a D5-Evo spec board on the same callout when your board is replaced after load shedding damage. The upgrade cost difference is R400–R600 and gives you significantly better surge protection going forward. Many Sandton D5 owners have had boards replaced 2–3 times without this upgrade.

Sandton's Most Googled Gate Motor Question

Gate Motor Beeping? Decode Your Fault Here

The Centurion D5-Evo and D5 Smart use a beep pattern system to communicate fault codes. Count the beeps, find the pattern below, and you'll know exactly what the fault is before calling us. Most faults we can confirm over the phone.

Note: Nice ROBUS and Gemini use LED flash patterns rather than audible beeps for fault indication. Call us for model-specific LED diagnostic guides for Sandton residents.

2 Short Beeps (repeating)

Power failure detected. The motor is running on battery backup only — mains supply has been cut (load shedding or tripped breaker).

Action: Check if your mains power is on. If load shedding — normal operation. If mains is on — check the breaker and fuse. Battery still operational.

3 Beeps (periodic)

Low battery warning. Battery voltage has dropped below threshold — the motor will fail to operate the gate during the next power outage.

Action: Replace the battery within the next 2 weeks. R650–R950 for most Sandton brands. Do not ignore — next load shedding outage will leave your gate stuck.

4 Beeps every 10s

Collision detected or obstruction on track. The gate hit something, ran into an end-stop, or DOSS detected an anomaly on the travel path.

Action: Check the gate track for debris, stones or objects. Check that the gate moves freely by hand. Check safety beams are clean and aligned. Call us if persists.

Continuous single beep

Motor jammed, drive failure or end-stop fault. Gate is stuck mechanically or the motor drive circuit has failed (often after a power surge).

Action: Do not keep pressing the remote — this strains the motor. Use manual release to free the gate. Call 061 402 6299 — this usually needs a technician.

Counted the Beeps but Still Not Sure?

Centurion D5, D5-Evo and D5 Smart motors across Sandton often display beep codes after load shedding, while Nice ROBUS systems use LED indicators instead of audible beeps. If you’ve counted the beeps or noticed flashing LEDs but still aren’t sure what the fault means, call us before booking a technician. We diagnose most Centurion and Nice ROBUS faults over the phone before dispatching, helping us arrive with the correct board, battery, charger or receiver already stocked in the vehicle for fast same-day Gate Motor Repairs Sandton.

How to Manually Open Your Gate During Load Shedding

Sandton's most-searched gate motor query. If your gate is stuck and you need to open it manually right now — follow these steps, then call us to fix the underlying fault same day.

⚠️ Safety First

Never disengage the motor on a sloped driveway without someone holding the gate. Once disengaged, the gate rolls freely and can seriously injure people or damage vehicles. If in doubt — call us first: 061 402 6299

General Steps — All Sliding Gate Motors

Find the Release Key/Lever

Every gate motor has a manual release — a key lock, red lever or pull-cord on the motor housing. Check the side or rear face. Your installer should have left you a flat manual release key on installation

Disengage from the Rack

Turn the key or pull the lever to disengage the motor's pinion gear from the gate rack. You'll feel or hear a click when properly disengaged. The motor no longer drives the gate.

Push the Gate Manually

The gate should now roll freely on its wheels. Push it open or closed by hand. If it doesn't roll easily, the issue may be the wheels or track — not the motor. Don't force it.

Re-Engage After Power Returns

Push the gate back to fully closed or open position and re-engage the motor (reverse step 2). Press remote — the motor re-learns limits on first operation. Call us if it doesn't re-engage.

Brand-Specific Manual Release Instructions

Centurion D5 / D5-Evo / D5 Smart / D6 Smart

Insert the flat manual release key into the keyhole on the motor's front face. Turn 90° clockwise. Gate can now be pushed manually. To re-engage: turn back counter-clockwise and remove key. Motor auto-learns limits on next remote press.

Centurion D10 Smart / D10 Turbo Smart

Pull the red/orange lever on the underside of the motor housing toward you to disengage the clutch. Gate is free to push. Push lever back in firmly to re-engage. Note: D10 estate gates are very heavy — have assistance before releasing.

Nice ROBUS 600 / 1000

Insert the key into the front cover's key slot. Turn to the open padlock symbol (🔓). Slide gate by hand. To re-engage, turn to locked padlock (🔒). ROBUS auto-runs a limit reset on first remote operation after re-engagement.

Gemini Slider 12AH / Pro 24V

Pull the orange release handle outward firmly — it clicks into disengaged position. Push gate by hand. Push handle back in until it clicks to re-engage. Gemini requires a limit-learn cycle — hold remote and gate re-learns its travel.

ET Drive 500 / 1000

Insert key into motor housing (front or side). Turn to open padlock symbol. Motor disengages from rack. To re-engage: turn to locked symbol and remove. Press and hold remote button to reset limits after re-engagement.

DTS Elite 600 / Arrow

Red or orange lever on the side of the motor casing. Pull outward to disengage. Push gate manually. Push lever firmly back in to re-engage. DTS auto-detects gate position on next remote operation.

Motor Not Re-Engaging After Power Returns?

If your Sandton gate motor does not restart normally after load shedding — even after manually re-engaging the release mechanism — the PCB control board has likely been damaged by the Eskom restoration surge. This is extremely common on Centurion D5-Evo, Nice ROBUS, DTS Elite and ET Drive systems across Bryanston, Fourways, Lonehill, Morningside, Rivonia and surrounding Sandton suburbs after severe load shedding cycles.

Sandton's Most Googled Gate Motor Question

Claiming Gate Motor Damage on Home Insurance

Most South African home and contents insurance policies cover power surge damage — and load shedding restoration voltage spikes qualify. Many Sandton homeowners don't know they can claim, or don't know how to document the fault correctly.

Confirm Power Surge Cover

Call your insurer and confirm your policy includes "power surge" or "electrical surge" cover. Most standard home insurance policies in South Africa include this, but check your schedule of benefits to confirm your excess amount.

Get a Written Diagnosis

You need a written fault diagnosis report from a qualified technician confirming that power surge damage is the cause of failure — not wear-and-tear or improper installation. We provide this report on every Sandton callout at no additional charge.

Get a Parts + Labour Invoice

Your insurer needs an itemised invoice showing the part replaced (e.g. "Centurion D5-Evo PCB control board") and the labour cost. We issue this automatically on completion of every repair. Most policy excess amounts are R500–R1,500.

Submit Your Claim

Submit the fault diagnosis report and invoice with your claim form. Load shedding surge repairs costing R2,000+ are generally worth claiming. Smaller repairs (remote, battery) typically don't exceed the excess and are not worth claiming.

We Provide All Insurance Documentation

Our written fault diagnosis report is accepted by all major South African insurers including Outsurance, Santam, Discovery Insure, Old Mutual Insure, Hollard and King Price. We issue it automatically on every Sandton repair callout — you don't need to ask. Call 061 402 6299 and mention you'll need an insurance claim report.

Security Add-Ons — Sandton Gate Motors

Protect Your Motor — Anti-Theft & Security Upgrades

Gate motors are a common theft target in Sandton. We install all the following on any callout or as a standalone visit — most take under 30 minutes and dramatically reduce theft risk and surge damage

Anti-Theft Cage

Heavy steel cage bolted over the motor housing — makes motor removal extremely difficult and time-consuming. The single most effective deterrent against gate motor theft in Sandton. Works with Centurion, Gemini, Nice and ET.

Surge Protector

Installed between mains supply and motor. Absorbs the voltage spike during load shedding restoration. The single most cost-effective protection for a Centurion D5 or D5-Evo in Sandton. Prevents the #1 fault in this area.

Solar Backup + Larger Battery

Solar trickle-charge panel keeps battery topped up during extended load shedding. Combined with a 12Ah upgrade battery, your gate can operate through 4–6 hours of outage vs 1–2 hours on standard 7Ah.

Rolling Code Remotes

Older fixed-code remotes can be cloned by criminals using cheap handheld scanners — a known Sandton crime method. Rolling-code remotes generate a new unique code on each press, making cloning impossible.

GSM / App Access Control

Open and close your gate from any smartphone with full access logs. Ideal for Sandton rental properties, AirBnBs and frequent travellers. Works with Centurion D5 Smart, D6 Smart, D10 Smart and G-ULTRA module.

Serial Number Engraving

Your motor's serial number engraved visibly onto the casing deters theft by making resale significantly harder. Low cost, permanent deterrent. Done on any callout in under 5 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions — Gate Motor Repairs Sandton

Sandton Gate Motor Repairs FAQ

How much does gate motor repair cost in Sandton?

Gate motor repairs in Sandton range from R350 for a remote reprogram to R9,000 for a motor winding repair. The most common repair — Centurion D5 control board after load shedding — costs R1,800–R3,200. Nice ROBUS logic boards cost R1,200–R4,000. Capacitor replacements (Gemini, ET) cost R550–R1,200. We provide a free diagnosis and fixed quote before starting any work — you only pay if you approve. No call-out fee for Sandton properties.

What does it mean when my gate motor beeps in Sandton?
Gate motor beeping is a coded fault message. 2 beeps repeating = mains power failure (load shedding — no repair needed). 3 beeps periodically = low battery warning — replace battery within 2 weeks or your gate will fail during the next outage. 4 beeps every 10 seconds = collision/obstruction detected — check track and safety beams. Continuous single beep = motor jammed or drive circuit failure — call us. Count your beeps and call 061 402 6299 — we can diagnose most Centurion and Nice ROBUS faults over the phone.
Why did my gate motor stop after load shedding?

The voltage spike that occurs when Eskom power restores after an outage destroys the PCB control board inside your gate motor. The mechanism and motor survive — only the board fails. This is the #1 gate motor fault across all Sandton suburbs. The original Centurion D5 (no LCD screen) is the most vulnerable. We carry replacement boards in stock for all major brands for same-day repair. A surge protector fitted on the same callout (R450–R900) prevents future damage permanently.

What is the difference between the Centurion D5, D5-Evo and D5 Smart?
The original D5 has no LCD display, no DOSS system and the least surge protection — it is the most vulnerable model to load shedding damage. The D5-Evo adds an LCD display showing error codes, the DOSS digital origin-seeking system, and improved board surge handling — the recommended repair upgrade from the original D5. The D5 Smart adds Bluetooth, Centurion Connect app control and remote diagnostics — the best choice for new installations. If you have the original D5, we recommend upgrading to D5-Evo spec board on the same callout when your board is replaced — the difference is only R400–R600.
Should I repair or replace my gate motor?

We use the 60% rule: if repair cost exceeds 60% of the installed price of a new motor, and the motor is over 10 years old, replacement usually makes better financial sense. A D5 board replacement at R2,500 on a 6-year-old motor with no prior repairs = repair. The same R2,500 on a 12-year-old motor that has had 3 repairs in 2 years = replace. We always give you both options with honest advice — never any pressure in either direction. Use our Repair vs Replace tool on this page for a quick calculation.

How quickly can you get to my Sandton property?

Being based in Broadacres, Sandton — most Sandton properties are 15–30 minutes from our base during working hours. We aim for same-day service on all standard callouts and within 60–90 minutes on emergency callouts. We are closer to most Sandton properties than any competitor operating from Johannesburg central or the East Rand. For estate entrance gates, security-critical failures are our priority — call 061 402 6299 any time.

Does home insurance cover gate motor damage from load shedding?

Yes — most South African home insurance policies include power surge cover, and load shedding restoration spikes qualify. You need: (1) a written fault diagnosis report confirming surge damage as the cause — we provide this at no extra charge on every callout, (2) an itemised repair invoice, and (3) your insurer's claim form. Typical policy excess is R500–R1,500, making claims worthwhile for board replacements of R2,000+. We provide documentation accepted by Outsurance, Santam, Discovery Insure, Old Mutual, Hollard and King Price.

How do I manually open my gate during load shedding?

Every gate motor has a manual release. Centurion D5/D5-Evo/D5 Smart: insert flat release key into the front keyhole and turn 90° clockwise. Nice ROBUS: insert key and turn to open padlock symbol. Gemini Slider: pull the orange release handle outward until it clicks. ET Drive and DTS: insert key and turn to open padlock symbol. Once disengaged, push the gate by hand. Re-engage when power returns and press your remote to reset limits. See our full brand-by-brand manual release guide on this page. Call 061 402 6299 if it doesn't re-engage after power returns.

My gate motor remote is not working — what should I check?

Step 1: Replace the remote battery (CR2032 or A23) — flat batteries cause 40% of remote faults. Step 2: Test if the gate responds to the button on the motor itself — if yes, the remote needs reprogramming or replacement (R350–R700). Step 3: If all remotes are dead and the motor is completely unresponsive, the receiver module is likely burned by a load shedding surge (R700–R1,400, in stock for same-day repair). Step 4: If the gate works by button and remote but opens randomly on its own, you have a frequency interference or receiver fault — also R700–R1,400 to fix. Call 061 402 6299 for phone diagnosis before we attend.

Do you repair gate motors in estates and complexes in Sandton?

Yes — we work regularly with estate managers and body corporates across Sandton's security estates and cluster complexes. We carry company identification, give advance notice to security, and follow each complex's specific access procedures. We understand the urgency and zero-downtime requirements of estate entrance gates. For estate maintenance contracts (multiple gates, 3-monthly service cycles, priority 1-hour SLA) call 061 402 6299 for a tailored plan quote.

How often should I service my gate motor in Sandton?

Residential Sandton properties: every 12 months. High-cycle estate entrance gates: every 6 months. The single most critical service item is gearbox oil — degraded oil is the leading cause of premature motor failure in Sandton. A gearbox service at R450–R900 prevents R5,000–R9,000 motor failure. Battery checks, limit adjustments, track lubrication and safety beam alignment are done at the same visit. We offer standalone service visits and annual maintenance plan packages.

Are you a certified or accredited gate motor installer in Sandton?

Yes. Paskwa Gate Repairs is a Centurion Systems accredited installer and Nice ROBUS accredited installer. This accreditation matters for two reasons: (1) repairs and installations carried out by an accredited installer keep the motor's manufacturer warranty intact — non-accredited work can void warranty on motors under 5 years old, and (2) accredited technicians are trained and assessed by the manufacturer on specific installation and repair procedures. All our technicians have a minimum of 10 years' gate motor experience.

Can you convert my manual gate to automatic in Sandton?

Yes — we convert manual sliding and swing gates to full automatic operation across all of Sandton. The process covers rack installation on the gate (if not present), motor mounting on a prepared base plate, electrical connection, limit programming and remote setup. We assess your gate's weight, length and daily cycle requirements on-site and recommend the right motor. Typical all-in cost for a Sandton residential property: R7,500–R15,000 depending on gate weight and motor selected. Free site assessment — call 061 402 6299.

What is the lifespan of a gate motor in Sandton?

A well-maintained gate motor on a residential Sandton property should last 10–15 years. With regular gearbox servicing, surge protection and annual maintenance, some Centurion D5 units have remained operational for 18+ years. The three biggest lifespan factors in Sandton are: (1) surge protection — an unprotected D5 may have 3–4 board replacements before the mechanism also fails, (2) gearbox oil — changed annually, this alone can add 5+ years to motor life, and (3) correct motor selection — an undersized motor working at 90% of rated capacity wears out in 5–6 years instead of 12+.
